Wild Life Week is a week-long celebration of wildlife and its importance to our planet. It is celebrated annually in India during the first week of October.

The aim of Wild Life Week is to raise awareness about the need to protect wildlife and its habitats.

History of Wild life week:

The history of Wildlife Week celebration in India dates back to 1952, when the Indian Board of Wildlife conceived the idea. It was originally observed as Wildlife Day in 1955, but later in 1957, it was renamed Wildlife Week. The week is celebrated from October 2 to October 8, which coincides with the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, who was a strong advocate for wildlife conservation.

Wildlife Week is a great opportunity to learn more about the amazing wildlife that we share our planet with, and to take action to protect it.

Here is a brief timeline of the history of Wildlife Week celebration in India:

  • 1952: The Indian Board of Wildlife conceives the idea of Wildlife Week.

  • 2010: The theme of Wildlife Week is “Wildlife Conservation and Climate Change.”

  • 2021: The theme of Wildlife Week is “Forests and Livelihoods: Sustaining People and Planet.”
  • 2022: The theme of Wildlife Week is “Recovering species for ecosystem restoration”.
  • 2023: The theme of Wildlife Week is “Partnerships for wildlife conservation”
